Frequency
How often inspections are performed doesn’t need much explaining. When you buy a new car, you must have it inspected within 10 days of the registration. Subsequently, your car must pass inspection once a year. Those yearly inspections have to be completed within 10 days of the end of your birth month. So for example, if your birthday is in June, you have until July 10 to get your car inspected. What you may not know is that you can schedule your inspection as early as three months before your birth month as long as you have a valid registration.
Safety
All passenger vehicles have to undergo a safety inspection to ensure that you and other drivers are safe when your car is on the road. This comprehensive check covers the most important parts of your car.
- Mechanical – We’ll check that all your essential systems are working including brakes, exhaust, and suspension.
- Interior – We also check the interior parts and safety features of your car. These include the horn, rearview mirror, and steering wheel.
- Exterior – And finally we get the exterior. Your car will pass inspection if there are no large cracks in the windshield and the bumpers, tires, and wheels are in good condition.
Emissions
The state of NH also requires that your car pass an emissions test. The test checks that your car does not put out pollutants such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, and carbon dioxide at higher than acceptable levels. The emissions test only adds a few minutes to the inspection.
